Marcus Books, the longest running Black-owned bookstore in the country NEEDS HELP.

Interested in Black literature, books, and voice? An email alert I received: Hi Ms. Sourna,

You have a great site and wonderful books!  I'm writing to provide some info for Marcus Books, a bookstore that's become a cornerstone to the Black community as it highlights its culture.

We  are pushing to keep this open so it can continue to support local schools, reading programs and cultural events.

This is the longest running Black-owned bookstore in the country with youth and community programs.

A couple months ago the building that the bookstore shares was behind in payments.

Speculators wanting the building somehow subverted the bookstore's delayed payment, although an associate of Marcus Books is supplying funds to purchase the building back.

Here's a site http://SupportMarcusBooks.com for updates.

This is a bookstore people have flocked to for 53 years. Previous speakers include Maya Angelou,  Oprah Winfrey, Amiri Baraka, Iyanla Vanzant, Rosa Parks and Barbara Lee among many others.

The store needs for this information to be shared with those in the community who enjoy Black literature and authors.

For more information and to support, you can also call 415-335-7033 and email sanfrancisco@acce.org, too. Could you forward this info to your readers and associates?

Here are some additional links :

Thank You
